New Driving Force for China’s Development, New Opportunities for China-UK Cooperation

The Third Plenum of the Communist Party Committee, held in November has set the policy for a new direction, which will take its shape over the next 5 to 7 years. All global and foreign businesses will be affected because of the changes and the scale of China’s economy and international trade and investment. Ambassador Liu shared with us his analysis and the implications for British business.

In this over-subscribed event, kindly hosted by KPMG, the Ambassador outlined in detail his ‘top ten’ elements of the ‘Decision’ taken in Beijing and their implications for UK-China trade. He emphasized that this was not a finite list but would develop over time. The speech focused on areas where the UK is strong and brought into play new areas of co-operation. He called it, a “Plenum of Promise” which signals a new era in UK-China relations.
